Technological Requirement

For CGN distance learning conducted in an online environment, students are required to have access to specific technology to participate in courses and exams.

Computer Hardware Requirements:

PC Users:

  • Operating System: Windows 7 or higher
  • Memory (RAM): 2 GB or higher
  • Software: Adobe Flash Player 9+, Adobe Acrobat Reader 9+
  • Webcam: Minimum resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels
  • Internet Connection: High-speed with download/upload speeds of 1.5 MB per second or better
  • Supported Browsers: Google Chrome, Internet Explorer 9+, Firefox 14.0.1+, Safari 4

Apple Mac Users:

  • Operating System: Mac OS X or later
  • Software: Adobe Flash Player 9+, Adobe Acrobat Reader 9+
  • Webcam: Minimum resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels
  • Internet Connection: High-speed with download/upload speeds of 1.5 MB per second or better
  • Supported Browsers: Google Chrome, Internet Explorer 9+, Firefox 14.0.1+, Safari 4 (For Mac users, Mac OS X v. 10.7 represents the “Lion” operating system.)

Checking Your Computer: Students are encouraged to visit Google.com and use the Internet Speed Test to configure their computers. By running the speed test, they can determine their internet's download and upload speeds.

Additional Information on Speed Test: More detailed information regarding the Speed Test can be accessed for a comprehensive understanding.

Special Considerations:

  • Students are responsible for their personal electronics, operating systems, internet connection speed, and any third-party software.
  • Webcams are essential for exam monitoring. Note that the Atlantic University Test does not support Chromebooks or Microsoft Surface RT tablets. Detailed information on Proctored Exams can be found in the Admissions Management course.

Internship and Independent Study:

Internship: Graduate students meeting eligibility criteria may engage in credited or non-credited internships, whether paid or unpaid, contingent upon faculty approval and compliance with educational guidelines. An integral aspect of these internships involves the practical application of academic knowledge to attain educational milestones.

Registration requirements necessitate students to exhibit academic proficiency within their field of expertise. Departments or educational entities may impose additional prerequisites before sanctioning internships. The maximum credit hours granted for internships, subject to specialization, typically do not exceed six credit hours. Specializations may stipulate fewer credit hours for internship completion.

Continued Admission:

Students failing to meet qualification criteria and not on an approved leave of absence must enroll in designated courses, dissertation seminars, or similar academic activities to maintain their admission status each semester during regular matriculation. Failure to do so may result in an inactive status, requiring re-enrollment under prevailing conditions at the time.

Enrollment Hold:

During a semester without enrollment in a degree program, doctoral students utilizing university services may uphold their enrollment status by enrolling in a maintenance program. The maintenance fee for this status is $200.

Testing

Testing

Testing Center:

The CGN Test Center offers a comprehensive online test and assessment facility tailored to meet students' needs. CGN is planning to establish a comprehensive test center accessible to community members and affiliates across the region.

Test Guidelines:

  • Students arriving more than 30 minutes late for an exam will forfeit their opportunity to take the test. For CGN trainer exams, students are responsible for arranging makeup exams in coordination with their trainer.
  • If a student decides not to take the test for any reason, it's their responsibility to inform the test center to facilitate rescheduling.
  • In cases of illness, scheduling conflicts, etc., students require email approval from their teacher to change the exam time. The test center is not authorized to exempt students from examinations.
  • Personal items such as backpacks, purses, cell phones, and smartwatches are not permitted in the test room, except during designated breaks.
  • For CGN Instructor Exams, students should register at least 10 minutes before the scheduled test time and report to the test coordinator. Tests must commence at the beginning of the session.

Academic Integrity: The CGN Test Center strictly prohibits fraudulent behavior. Suspected irregularities will be confiscated, and individuals may be subject to inquiry by CGN staff. University staff reserves the right to enter the test center during examinations for monitoring purposes.

Testing Refund Policy: CGN University adheres to a no-refund policy on exam fees. However, if unable to attend a scheduled exam, students can reschedule by contacting the exam coordinator at least 24 business hours before the scheduled exam. Rescheduling is subject to the availability of the exam coordinator.

Remote Proctoring Services: CGN offers remote monitoring services to external entities. Students are responsible for coordinating test administration with their teacher and can schedule appointments by calling 413-345-2186 for remote monitoring services.

Satisfactory Academic Progress

Satisfactory Academic Progress

Good Academic Standing:

Maintaining a good academic standing denotes students who sustain a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher, demonstrate improved academic accuracy, and uphold high academic standards within classroom interactions with faculty and staff.

Academic Probation:

Students will be placed on academic probation if their cumulative GPA falls below 2.00 or if they complete less than 70% of the total attempted credits in a course. During this period, students will be assigned a Success Coach or Instructor. To exit probation:

  • Achieving a GPA of 3.00 or higher and completing 70% or more of attempted credits leads to reinstatement of Good Standing.
  • Attaining a semester GPA of 2.00 or higher, but the cumulative GPA remains below 2.00 or failing to complete 70% of attempted credits will sustain the probation.
  • Failure to achieve a minimum semester GPA of 2.00 or complete 67% or higher of attempted credits will prolong the probationary period.

Additionally, violations of the University’s Academic Integrity policies (e.g., cheating, plagiarism) result in immediate placement on Academic Probation for one semester. Return to Good Academic Standing is contingent upon full compliance with the University’s Academic Integrity policies. A repeated violation may result in Academic Dismissal.

Academic Dismissal:

Students falling below a 2.0 GPA while on Academic Probation will face dismissal at the term's conclusion. A dismissed student may petition for reinstatement by presenting evidence of extenuating circumstances. Upon readmission, the student must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher to remain enrolled in the program.

Semester and Academic Weeks:

A “semester” spans twelve weeks for course completion. Academic weeks run from Monday to Sunday, ending at 11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time (EST). Students have 24/7 access to CGN University’s Moodle learning management system (LMS) throughout the twelve-week semester.

Course Structure:

CGN University structures graduate and noncredit programs in semester credit hours. Each course, typically three credits, entails approximately 135 hours of work, requiring about nine hours of weekly study. Assignments comprise various tasks, including readings, discussions, written assignments, and projects.

Attendance Requirements and Student Participation:

Submission of assignments via Moodle within the stipulated timeframe is mandatory. Late submissions incur grade deductions unless alternate arrangements are agreed upon due to special circumstances. Instructors return graded assignments within one week of submission, unless otherwise specified.

Online courses necessitate active weekly participation in discussions and timely assignment submissions. Lack of participation or failure to submit assignments adversely affects the course grade.

Inactive Status:

Students must enroll in at least three semesters annually to maintain “Active” status, ensuring continuous progress within the program. Inactive status results from a lack of course activity over a 100-day period or non-registration for six months. Re-admission necessitates formal application and adherence to prevailing admission requirements and tuition rates.
